Obverse description At center, a detailed depiction of the Hand of Justice surmounted by an ornate cross pattée, rendered in high relief and evoking the Carolingian imperial regalia. To the left of the central device, the dates 768 and 814 are inscribed in two lines, referencing the reign of Charlemagne as King of the Franks and Emperor of the West.
