| Obverse description | The effigy of Queen Beatrix is rendered entirely through the dense, continuous repetition of the legend KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN, which is arranged in concentric and spiral patterns to form her portrait in relief against the polished field. The name BEATRIX appears prominently within the typographic composition. This innovative typographic technique, designed by engraver Karel Martens, replaces traditional sculptural portraiture with a textual mosaic, lending the obverse a distinctly modernist aesthetic. The rimmed border frames the design cleanly. |
