| Reverse description | Facing right bust of Admiral Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter occupies a central oval cartouche set against a sunburst field of fine radiating lines filling the entire reverse. The circular legend MICHIEL ADRIAENSZOON DE RUYTER encircles the portrait cartouche, with the denomination 10 EURO inscribed below the bust within the cartouche, and the birth year 1607 appearing vertically along the left inner rim. The words PAREL (Pearl) and SCHRIK (Terror) are prominently displayed in large lettering in the upper left and lower right of the outer field respectively, evoking de Ruyter's legendary epithets. The engraver's initials appear in the lower right field. The design commemorates the 400th anniversary of the birth of the celebrated Dutch admiral. |
