This piece belongs to Greece's long-running "Great Ancient Greeks" commemorative program. Archimedes of Syracuse — mathematician, engineer, and the man who allegedly leapt from his bath shouting eureka — died in 212 BC when a Roman soldier killed him during the sack of Syracuse, reportedly against the direct orders of the Roman general Marcellus, who had wanted him taken alive.
The .925 silver specification places it in the upper tier of the series' production standards. KM#275 is a single-year issue with no known die varieties of collector significance.
