Reverse description A bust-length portrait of Saint James the Greater (Sanctus Jacobus Major) is depicted in the central field, rendered in high relief with gold-plated accoutrements. The saint wears a pilgrim's broad-brimmed hat and a cloak with a scallop shell badge, holding a long pilgrim's staff in his left hand. A scroll beneath the figure bears the inscription SANCTVS JACOBVS MAJOR identifying the subject. The Rome Mint mark R appears to the right of the figure in the field. The circular legend around the periphery reads CITTA' DEL VATICANO and EVRO DIECI in bold stylised lettering with gold finishing.
