Reverse description The large numeral 10 dominates the right portion of the field, rendered in a bold, flowing style closely imitating the design of the official European Union euro cent coinage. A stylized sprig with small floral or star-shaped blossoms occupies the left side of the field. Below the numeral, the denomination inscription EURO CENT is arranged in two lines at the center-base, accompanied by a small lozenge or mint mark device. The mintmaster's initial P appears at lower right.

Additional information

Sassello is a small municipality in the Ligurian Apennines with a population under two thousand. This piece dates to the brief Italian wave of local "euro fantasy" issues produced in the run-up to the single currency's 1999 launch, when dozens of comuni, private entities, and regional bodies struck unofficial tokens denominated in euros before the European Central Bank had issued a single legal coin. None carried monetary validity.
