Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Pope Pius XII wearing the papal zucchetto and ornate vestments with a stole, rendered in high relief against a plain field. The effigy is depicted in a classical portrait style with fine detail on the liturgical garments. The Latin legend PIUS XII PONT. MAX. arcs around the upper periphery of the coin.

Reverse description The large numeral '10' dominates the right side of the field, with the word CENT inscribed below it. To the left, a detailed view of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City is depicted in low relief, its famous dome and colonnade rendered in fine detail. The inscription PROVA and the year 2005 appear beneath the basilica to the lower left. Twelve five-pointed stars of the European Union border the entire design along the outer rim.
