The Auberge d'Aragon is one of the few surviving auberges of the Knights of St. John still standing in Valletta, built in the late sixteenth century to house knights of the Aragonese, Catalan, and Navarrese langues. Malta's broader commemorative silver program has frequently drawn on the Knights' architectural legacy, and this issue falls within a series documenting Valletta's historic buildings ahead of the city's designation as European Capital of Culture in 2018.
KM#163 is a relatively low-mintage issue, as is typical of Maltese commemoratives targeting the collector market rather than circulation.
