Obverse description An Andean condor (Vultur gryphus), the national bird of Chile, is depicted in three-quarter profile perched upon a rocky outcrop with stylized Andean mountain peaks visible in the background. The bird's wings are partially spread, its head turned to the left, rendered with fine feather detail throughout the body and wing plumage. The circumferential legend REPUBLICA DE CHILE runs along the upper rim in capital Latin letters. The Santiago mint mark (So) appears in small characters at the base of the field, just below the rocky perch.
