Obverse description Armored bust of Philip II facing left, rendered in high relief with curled hair and a short beard, wearing a ruffled collar and plate armor. The date appears in the lower field, divided by a mint mark beneath the truncation of the bust. The circumferential legend in Latin runs along the outer border, partially visible on this irregularly struck hammered flan. The portrait is characteristic of the late sixteenth-century Low Countries engraving style, with pronounced facial features and detailed rendering of the gorget and pauldron.
