| Reverse description | The arms of the city of Elbing displayed prominently at center: a quartered shield bearing two crosses on a divided field, supported by decorative mantling and surmounted by an angel or winged figure acting as crest. The date 1658 appears in the upper field flanking the crest. The circular legend, split between the upper and lower portions of the coin, reads MONETA.NOVA.A.CIVITATIS.ELBINGENSIS.I.G.S., referencing the new coinage of the city of Elbing during the Swedish occupation. The overall composition is characteristic of elaborate German-style civic heraldic coinage of the mid-seventeenth century. |
