| Obverse description | Two standing saints, identified as St. Rupertus (Rudbertus) and St. Virgilius, flank a central oval cartouche bearing the combined arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg and Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau. The saints are depicted in ecclesiastical vestments, each supporting the shield from either side. The surrounding field carries the Archbishop's Latin titulature as the continuous obverse legend. The composition reflects the elaborate Mannerist engraving style characteristic of late sixteenth-century South German gold coinage. |
