The "Aureus Magnus" series was a private gold restrike program, not a state issue — these pieces carry no legal tender status and were never authorized by the Bundesbank. Struck by private mints in the 1970s capitalizing on West German interest in commemorative gold following the relaxation of private gold ownership rules in Europe, they circulated primarily through coin dealerships and subscription catalogs rather than any official channel.
Adenauer died in 1967, nearly a decade before this piece was struck.
