Obverse description Armored equestrian effigy of Emperor Otto I (reigned 936–973), founder of Magdeburg, depicted in full plate armor and holding a scepter, mounted on a caparisoned horse striding to the right. The composition fills the central field with bold relief, the horse's trappings rendered in fine detail. The date 1618 appears in an ornamental cartouche in the exergue. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire design within a beaded border.
