Obverse description Central field features the Arms of Singapore, depicting a shield charged with a crescent moon and five stars, supported by a lion rampant on the left and a tiger rampant on the right, all above a stylised wave motif. A ribbon scroll beneath the supporters bears the national motto MAJULAH SINGAPURA in Latin lettering. The date 1989 appears in the lower field below the arms. The surrounding legend reads SINGAPURA at the top arc in Latin script, SINGAPORE at the bottom arc, with the Tamil legend சிங்கப்பூர் along the left and the Chinese characters 新加坡 along the right.

Reverse description The central field displays a coiled snake rendered in high relief within a raised inner circle, its head facing forward at lower centre with textured, scaled body wrapping in successive loops. Above the snake within the inner circle appear the Chinese characters 巳 (si), denoting the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac. Surrounding the inner circle, arranged along the border of the field, are twelve small relief vignettes representing each animal of the Chinese zodiac cycle, including the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. The denomination legend 10 DOLLARS appears in the lower arc of the outer field in Latin characters.
