Reverse description Three gilt rampant horses arranged in a dynamic circular composition around a centrally inlaid red gemstone, all set against an intricate silver filigree decorative background with floral and scrollwork motifs. The horses are rendered in high relief with applied gold-tone gilding, conveying movement and vitality in reference to the Chinese Lunar Year of the Horse. The legend YEAR OF THE HORSE arcs along the upper portion of the field, and the denomination $10 appears at the base beneath the central design.

Additional information

Fiji's lunar series issues from this period were struck by the Pobjoy Mint under contract, one of the few private mints consistently producing collector coinage for Pacific island nations that lack the infrastructure for domestic minting. The Year of the Horse fell in 2014 under the traditional Chinese sexagenary cycle — specifically a Wood Horse year, considered in Chinese astrology to be among the more dynamic and unpredictable of the twelve-year sequence.
