Additional information

Singapore's Lunar New Year commemorative series has been issued since 1967, making it one of the longest-running such programs in Southeast Asia. The Horse issue marks the year 4700 in the Chinese calendar. These copper-nickel strikes circulated alongside a silver proof version; the base-metal pieces were widely distributed through local banks and absorbed almost entirely into gift-giving rather than general circulation, which ironically left many in uncirculated condition inside red packets.
