Reverse description A polychrome enameled scene depicting a traditionally robed maiden in the left field, holding a sword and gazing toward a magnificently detailed Chinese dragon rendered in high relief on the right, rising from stylized clouds. Chinese characters appear in the upper central field. The vivid multicolor application contrasts with the mirror-polished silver background, and the entire design is framed by a beaded border.

Additional information

Somalia's "fantasy coinage" issues of this period were produced entirely for the collector market, with no meaningful connection to Somali monetary policy — the country had no functioning central government by 2000, following the collapse of the Siad Barre regime in 1991. Private minting houses exploited the legal ambiguity surrounding Somalia's issuing authority to place their products on the numismatic market under a nominally sovereign name.

The X# prefix in Krause confirms the non-circulating fantasy status. These pieces were almost certainly struck by a European or Asian contract mint.
