Fiji's lunar series coins are struck under license and produced entirely outside the islands — this piece was almost certainly manufactured by a European or Australian private mint on contract, with Fiji's issuing authority serving a nominal role. The country has issued commemorative legal tender of this kind since the 1990s, almost exclusively for collector export rather than domestic circulation. No example of this type has ever been spent as currency in Fiji.
