Additional information

Liberia's gold wildlife series from this period was produced almost entirely for the collector market, with no meaningful domestic circulation — the country was still rebuilding following the Second Liberian Civil War, which ended in 2003 after fourteen years of near-continuous conflict that gutted the country's monetary infrastructure. These pieces were struck under contract by foreign mints and licensed for legal tender status in name only.
