Additional information

Sierra Leone issued a long series of commemorative dollars in the early 2000s on subjects entirely unconnected to its own history, contracted through foreign minting and marketing intermediaries targeting collector markets in Europe and North America. The Battle of the Atlantic — the longest continuous military campaign of World War II, running from 1939 to 1945 — is a legitimate subject for commemoration, though Sierra Leone's role in choosing it was essentially nominal.

KM#340 belongs to a broad family of issues from this program, most struck at the Pobjoy Mint or similar facilities on behalf of the issuing authority.
