Palau has operated a prolific commemorative program since the 1990s, licensing its issuing authority to foreign minting houses targeting the collector market rather than any domestic circulation need. This piece was struck by B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt in Munich, part of a broader architectural series that leaned heavily on UNESCO World Heritage sites. Gaudí's basilica, still unfinished at the time of minting and not consecrated until 2010, had been under continuous construction since 1882 — a span that outlasted its architect by over eight decades.
