| Reverse description | The reverse of this rhombus-shaped coin presents a panoramic exterior view of the Piazza dei Miracoli (Miracle Square) in Pisa, rendered in antique-finish high relief. To the left stands the facade of the Pisa Cathedral with its characteristic Romanesque arcaded galleries, while to the right the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa rises at a pronounced angle against a sky with sculpted clouds. At center, a large colored stained-glass window insert again features the Virgin Mary in a blue mantle with a golden radiant halo, her hands clasped in prayer, standing above a tablet bearing the Latin inscription PROTEGE URBEM HANC ET PASTOREM. A winged cherub head in relief appears at the lower center, and a putto figure is positioned at the lower right. The curved legend PISA CATHEDRAL MIRACLE SQUARE arcs across the upper field. |
