Additional information

Liberia's Olympic commemorative program of the late 1990s and early 2000s was a prolific — some would say cynical — exercise in generating foreign exchange rather than marking any genuine national connection to the sports depicted. Liberia sent a delegation to the 2000 Sydney Games, but sailing was not among its represented disciplines. These pieces were struck for the collector market, distributed largely through European and American dealers, and never meaningfully circulated.
