Obverse description Central device depicts a stylised female shot put athlete in profile facing left, her flowing hair rendered in fine incised lines, shown in the act of release with a shot put visible to either side in a decorative geometric composition. A serrated or sawtooth-pattern band frames the athletic figure horizontally across the mid-field. The Montreal 1976 Olympic logo — comprising five interlocking rings surmounted by a stylised 'M' — appears in the upper left of the field. Bilingual legends in Latin script read OLYMPIADE XXI OLYMPIAD to the upper right, MONTRÉAL 1976 to the left, and the denomination 10 DOLLARS along the lower field.
