| Reverse description | A highly sculptural, gold-plated effigy of the Laughing Buddha (Budai) dominates the central field, depicted seated in a cross-legged posture with a broad, joyful expression, his rotund bare torso adorned with a beaded necklace, his left hand resting upon a cloth sack of treasures. The figure is rendered in exceptionally deep high relief with a polished gold-plating finish that contrasts dramatically with the ruthenium-toned matte silver field. Behind the figure, an ornate mandala pattern of lotus petals and fine beaded concentric rings radiates outward to the coin's border. The incuse legend LAUGHING BUDDHA appears on a decorative banner along the lower portion of the design, with the date 2017 inscribed beneath. |
