| Obverse description | Central field features a scenic vignette depicting a traditional dhow sailing on water, with a palm tree and a camel with handler in the foreground, and a bird in flight above. The scene is enclosed within a beaded inner border. The legend ERITREA arcs across the upper periphery in Latin script, flanked by stars, while the date 1997 appears in the exergue. Additional inscriptions in Ge'ez (Ethiopic) and Arabic script run along the left and right borders respectively, all reading 'Eritrea' in their respective languages. The mint mark PM appears to the lower right of the central motif. |
