Additional information

The Marshall Islands began issuing brass commemorative dollars in the early 1990s under a licensing arrangement that allowed them to produce coins celebrating American pop culture figures with essentially no connection to the islands themselves. Dean died in September 1955 at the wheel of his Porsche 550 Spyder on a California highway, and the 41 years between that event and this coin's issue date tell you everything about the commemorative market that produced it.
