Part of the First Spouse Gold Bullion series, this piece was issued to accompany the Presidential Dollar for John F. Kennedy — a coin that never actually existed, since Kennedy was never depicted on a Presidential Dollar during his lifetime. The Mint resolved the problem by issuing a "First Spouse" coin for Jackie alone, paired with a bronze medal standing in for the absent Presidential Dollar. It is one of the few entries in the series without a corresponding circulating coin counterpart.
