Greg Louganis won both the platform and springboard gold medals at the 1988 Seoul Olympics — but not before striking his head on the board during a preliminary springboard dive, an incident watched by hundreds of millions of television viewers. He returned to competition hours later, visibly stitched, and still won. The Marshall Islands issued a substantial commemorative series around the Seoul Games, and this piece falls within that run.
