Obverse description An intaglio portrait of Alexander Hamilton occupies the central oval vignette, his name lettered beneath; to the left, a bold golden Treasury seal bears the overprint GOLD alongside the legal tender clause, with CERTIFICATE rendered in large gold gothic lettering above and below.
