| Additional information |
Yoshikitty is a Sanrio character introduced in 1999 as a mashup of Hello Kitty and the Yoshiki Hayashi, the flamboyant drummer and co-founder of the Japanese visual kei rock band X Japan. The pairing is less arbitrary than it sounds — Hayashi has been a vocal Sanrio collaborator for decades, lending his likeness and brand to the character consistently. Cook Islands has issued a long series of small-format quarter-gram gold pieces tied to licensed pop culture properties, of which this is one entry among many.
