Part of a wave of fractional gold miniatures issued by Pacific island nations in the late 2000s, these pieces were produced almost entirely for the collector and bullion gift market, with Fiji lending its issuing authority to a series that had no meaningful domestic circulation. The actual minting was contracted to a European facility, as Fiji has no mint of its own.
At 0.5g, the gold content is too small to track meaningfully against bullion premiums — the numismatic markup dominates entirely.
