Additional information

The University of the West Indies was founded in 1948 as a college of the University of London, achieving independent university status in 1962 — the same year Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica gained independence. Barbados's Cave Hill campus opened in 1963. This coin marks the institution's fiftieth year.

The .925 silver commemorative market of the 1990s was crowded with Commonwealth issues of this exact specification, most produced by the Pobjoy Mint or the Royal Mint on contract. KM#66 falls squarely in that category — a low-mintage issue with limited secondary market depth.
