The inukshuk — a stone landmark construction used by Inuit and other Arctic peoples for navigation, hunting, and spiritual marking — became internationally recognized after serving as the symbol of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. This coin was issued three years after that Games, squarely within the period when the RCM was aggressively expanding its fine silver collector series targeting Olympic and Canadian cultural themes.
Struck in .9999 fine silver, a purity standard the RCM adopted to distinguish its collector issues from standard .999 bullion.
