Obverse description The national arms of Barbados displayed centrally, comprising a shield bearing two Pride of Barbados flowers and a bearded fig tree, supported by a dolphin (fish) to the left and a pelican to the right, surmounted by a helmet and wreath with an armoured fist holding two crossed pieces of sugar cane as crest. A scroll below bears the national motto PRIDE AND INDUSTRY. The date 1983 is divided across the field flanking the shield, with trident symbols to either side. The legend BARBADOS curves along the lower periphery, all within a beaded border.
