| Obverse description | Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, set within a decorative wreath, occupying the central field. The surrounding legend inscribed along the rim reads the full issuing authority, denomination, fineness, and monarch's title. The portrait is rendered in a refined, medallic style consistent with official Commonwealth coinage issues. |

The Sisserou parrot — endemic to Dominica and listed as critically endangered — became the anchor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank's bullion program largely because Dominica had no independent coinage tradition of its own to draw on. The ECCB issues spanned multiple member territories, but Dominica's contribution leaned hard on its most recognizable conservation symbol, one that also appears on the national flag — the only national flag in the world featuring a purple bird.
