Sir Walter Raleigh's flagship Falcon is something of a historical footnote — a vessel associated with his early privateering ventures in the 1570s and 1580s, operating during the period when English sea power was being assembled more through licensed piracy than state naval investment. Fiji's commemorative program from this era issued dozens of such maritime-themed pieces, most tied to Age of Exploration subjects with no particular connection to the Pacific.
The coin is part of a broader series minted by the Pobjoy Mint on behalf of the Reserve Bank of Fiji.
