Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, with a draped neckline and drop earring, as modeled by Ian Rank-Broadley. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery, while FIJI and the date 2002 appear along the right periphery. The sculptor's initials IRB appear truncated below the portrait. The field is mirror-polished in keeping with the proof finish.

Reverse description Central cameo-finish field depicts a naturalistic scene of a whale swimming amid underwater flora and fauna, rendered in high relief against a frosted, pearl-like background suggestive of the ocean depths. Small fish or bubbles appear above the whale, enhancing the marine environment. The date 2002 is inscribed in the lower central field. The surrounding raised border carries the arc legend SAVE THE WHALES above and the denomination 10 DOLLARS below, separated from the central design by a polished raised rim.
