Fiji issued a wave of licensed commemorative silver pieces in the early 2010s through the Pobjoy Mint, many bearing subjects with no meaningful connection to the island nation. This is one of them. Diana died in Paris on 31 August 1997; by 2011, commemorative issues marking her memory had been produced by dozens of issuing authorities across multiple decades, making this piece one entry in an extremely crowded field of collector-targeted material that never circulated.
