Issued to mark Solomon Islands' participation in the 1994 Commonwealth Games held in Victoria, British Columbia — the first Games to be hosted by Canada since the 1978 Edmonton edition. The relay runners series was part of a broader wave of Commonwealth commemoratives struck in sterling silver for the Pacific island nations during the early 1990s, most produced under contract by the Royal Mint or private minting houses rather than any domestic facility, as Solomon Islands has never operated its own mint.
