The Knights Templar were dissolved by papal decree at the Council of Vienne in 1312, their assets formally transferred to the Knights Hospitaller — though in practice, Philip IV of France had already seized what he could reach. The legendary "Templar treasure," which supposedly vanished before the arrests of 1307, has never been located and almost certainly never existed in the form mythologized by later centuries.
At 0.31 grams of fine gold, this is a collector novelty rather than a bullion instrument — the gold content is negligible, and the 45mm diameter is achieved through extreme thinness.
