| Reverse description | Central field depicts a dramatic scene after the original illustrations of Ingrid Vang Nyman, showing Pippi Longstocking grappling with a large open-mouthed shark emerging from stylised ocean waves. Pippi, shown with her characteristic pigtails, is rendered partially submerged at lower right, gripping the shark with both hands in a scene of spirited confrontation. The arc legend PIPPI IN THE SOUTH SEAS appears along the upper border. The copyright credit © INGRID VANG- NYMAN is inscribed in the lower left field. |

| Additional information |
Niue has operated a bullion and collector coin program since the 1990s, licensing pop-culture and literary properties as a revenue mechanism — the island's GDP from coin royalties has at times exceeded that of several other economic activities combined. The Pippi Longstocking licensing arrangement with the Astrid Lindgren estate is among the more formally structured of these deals, requiring design approval from Lindgren's heirs.
The specific title references Lindgren's 1948 novel Pippi Långstrump i Söderhavet, in which Pippi travels to a fictional South Sea island where her father reigns as king.
