| Obverse description | Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl necklace with drop earring, after the portrait by Raphael David Maklouf. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the upper left field, with 'FIJI 1995' positioned to the upper right. The initials 'RDM' appear beneath the truncation. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. |

The 1937 move referenced here was George VI's reluctant occupation of Buckingham Palace following his brother's abdication — the royal family had largely avoided the palace as a primary residence under Edward VIII, and George VI is said to have found it cold, draughty, and poorly suited to family life. Fiji's Pacific commemorative program of the mid-1990s systematically mined British royal milestones for silver crown-sized issues, this being one of several dozen released through that decade largely for the collector export market rather than domestic circulation.
