Additional information

The British Virgin Islands has issued commemorative silver dollars under royal prerogative since the 1970s, producing topical subjects that have no connection to the territory's own history or economy — Mount Rushmore among them. The coins are struck under license and distributed almost entirely to the collector market; none circulate in the BVI, where the US dollar has been the functional currency since 1959.
