Obverse description The quartered shield of the Niue coat of arms occupies the central field, surmounted by a St. Edward's Crown rendered in high relief. The shield displays the Southern Cross stars in the first quarter, three galleons in the second, a bunch of bananas and two coconut palms in the third, and crossed hammer and torch in the fourth. Two silver fern fronds flank the shield as supporters, their fronds curling outward in stylised relief. The legend NIUE appears to the upper left and the date 2001 to the upper right, both incuse against the mirror-polished field.
