Obverse description Right-facing diademed and draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II occupies the central field, rendered in fine relief with detailed hair and a tiara. The legend COMMONWEALTH OF DOMINICA arcs along the upper periphery, while the word INDEPENDENCE curves along the lower periphery. The independence date NOV. 3 appears to the left of the effigy and the year 1978 to the right, flanked by raised dot separators at either side of the lower field.
