| Obverse description | The obverse features the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as engraved by Susan Taylor, depicting the sovereign at approximately 77 years of age, bareheaded, and adorned with a necklace and earrings. The legend ELIZABETH II encircles the upper field, with D·G·REGINA appearing below the portrait. The issuer CANADA, the date 2020, and the denomination 10 DOLLARS are also incorporated into the legend. The portrait is rendered in a refined, naturalistic style consistent with the fourth definitive effigy used on Canadian coinage from 2003 onward. |

At the centre, the company's heraldic coat of arms is depicted with elk as supporters flanking a silver shield charged with the cross of St. George and four beavers, one in each quarter. The crest above the shield features a fox sejant atop the cap of maintenance. Below the shield, a banderole bears the company motto PRO PELLE CUTEM, a Latin phrase meaning 'a pelt for a skin,' evoking the historic fur trade for which Hudson's Bay Company was renowned. |
