Part of the Australian Geographic series issued by the Royal Australian Mint, this piece uses pad printing — an industrial process borrowed from commercial product decoration — to apply multicolor surface detail onto a coin blank without enamel or cloisonné inlay. The technique allows photographic-quality color at a fraction of the production cost, though long-term adhesion remains a known concern for collectors storing examples in high-humidity environments.
The Flora Reef release targeted the collector market explicitly; none entered general circulation.
