Part of a broader miniature gold series issued under Solomon Islands' licensing arrangements — a common vehicle for commemorative bullion tied to no domestic monetary purpose whatsoever. Chambord was begun in 1519 under François I, almost certainly as a hunting lodge rather than a primary residence, though it was never actually completed to its original plan. The double-helix staircase at its core is often attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, who was living at Amboise at François's invitation until his death that same year.
